Since this was brought up recently.

Pretty much all of Mike's articles are fantastic, but I assume everyone already knows that.

Plus...a while back I was reading some research studies
that were written by the NSCA (National Strength and
Conditioning Association) about what exercises activated
the "core" muscles the most. Dead Lift was by far number
one and the Squat was number two and in just my humble
opinion Reverse Hypers are a 1a/b. Everything else pales
in comparison. I have clients waiting to join the gym
wanting to work their core and in their minds, they are
thinking of the fufu crap for core exercises out there.
I told them that unless they want to do dead lifts,
squats, and reverse hypers, and start eating lower carbs
to lose body fat....GO SOMEWHERE ELSE TO NOT REACH YOUR
GOALS!

In short, dead lift. And more....deadlift fast and for
power!

John, you say deadlift fast for power, what is the baseline someone should have pure strength wise in the DL before working power? I have heard 2x BW as a baseline then back it down and work faster pulls?

Just pull a relatively heavy (for you) weight fast.  People seem to use the word power and force synonymously. Force = Mass X Acceleration.  Think of balancing the equation if it helps. If the mass goes down i.e. less bar weight then increase acceleration i.e. move the bar faster and vice versa.  Or to make it less complicated try to move the bar as fast as you can no matter what's on it.  Aside from when the weight gets so heavy that it takes you 3-5 seconds to grind out the lift you'll be working "power" no matter what relation to your body weight it is.
