There are a couple guys at my gym that I want to save from destroying their backs. One kid is about 21 and has a 495 lb deadlift. Not bad, but the problem is that his form is beyond HORRIBLE!!! I've worked with him a bit and his form has gotten better, but i can't work with him very often.

My question is, what videos/articles/tutorials/coaches would you recommend that he looks at and follow to get his form correct and be able to pull some serious numbers?

This site isn't too bad. http://www.exrx.net/Exercise.html
I have used it to pick some exercises to target a specific
muscle group. Can also use it to help build a workout
depending on if you want basic strength training, oly,
bodyweight, etc. The demo video windows are kinda small
but I think he will get the idea.

Search for Mark Rippetoe on Youtube. He has some informative videos about form and technique.

thanks for the couple suggestions. I will pass those along. I'm surprised there weren't more recommendations, but thanks for these.

That is what I would recommend to anyone starting out/having issues.

Probably because most of us learned our lifts the "old-fashioned way", by reading, the help of knowledgeable others, and pretty meticulous attention to technique--pre-video and pre-YouTube. Videos of high-level powerlifting meets are good sources because you see elite powerlifters of all weight classes doing conventional and sumo style.

I would guess another possible reason that you didn't receive more recommendations is that there maybe that there are so many resources that it's hard to pick one.  If you can do so, one thing that would help your person is to record his lifts with a digital camera (nearly every digital camera can shoot video) so he can see himself from the outside.  Very powerful feedback.

Just some ideas.

thank you for the additional recommendations. i didn't mean to sound complainy or anything. i was just surprised that with all the opinions on this forum, not too many people posted.

Thank you again.

i did see that deadlift article when it first got posted. I passed it along and it was helpful. He also needs to get his ego out of the lift so he can learn the technique better. Overall it was a very helpful article.

Thanks Craig for the video posts.  Thought I was a good dead lifter. Always kept my hands outside the second rings,  just bringing them in to my sides allows me to fire faster and actually use me hips.  Plus the weight felt lighter.
