This topic comes up every once in a while and generates as many posts as drug use, raw v. gear and curling in the squat rack.

Bench press is just a lift.  Some love it, some have no love for it.  Grew up in Texas where football is king, so you know I bench press.  I don't press particularly heavy anymore (compared to some) and really just use it as an excuse to hook up my PowerFactor and appear explosive.  Kinda.

I discovered the key to looking athletic in the Games is to have big pecs and triceps...in combination, these make my gut look smaller.

Just sayin.

you'll get more out of a good explosive squat than you will a super heavy bench IMO. I've dropped 35lbs in the last 4 months and my bench has dropped about 15-20lbs from the low 4s to the high 3s. My OHP has dropped just barely, maybe 5lbs or so and my squat/deadlift has increased. With that said, I've added about 3' to my Braemar with very little change in form..

IMO, unless you *love* the lift, why waste the energy in the gym on something you'll get very little carryover from? When I watch vids of guys throwing braemar and open, then always finish in a semi-incline press position. But that's the finish, they're getting all that drive off their legs.

I hate the flat bench and, unfortunately, I have a PL meet coming up in october I need to start training for.. *sigh* PL should be SQ, strict OHP, dead. now that would be dope.
