Been having lots of issues with my training taxing me so much that it is decreasing my numbers.  I cannot even hit within 5 feet of my PR's while in practice.  Is there some secret to training and throwing that I am not getting?  It is not like I train super heavy at all, just enough to really get a good lift in.  But for some reason, I cannot gather my legs underneath me in any of my throws and they just keep getting worse.  Any help appreciated!

The secret is to not overtrain, lol.

You have to look at all the factors that can play a role.  Training, Nutrition, Supplements, Sleep, Life Stressors, etc, etc...

Was there a time when you weren't overtrained?  What was different?

You have to be able to break down your training and all the factors and analyze that.  That's part of the reason why keeping a training journal is so important.  Not everyone is that same, and you have to find what works for you.  That takes time, depending on how in tune with yourself you are.

You make some points that for some reason I was not able to see for
myself. Got a lot of life stressors now and have been struggling with
some bad allergies. Thanks for reading my post and making me step
back and look at the bigger picture. You would think a nurse would be
better at analyzing his own problems!

The over training line is so clear when your on the wrong side of it.  When your just on the right side of the line and close your making the best gains and you feel wonderful.  Everything is feeling so good and your making progress it feels good so you tend to do more.  That is the place a lot of us fail.  More is not always better.  Then your over the line and it is hard to get back and keep momentum.  Do the things that are known to work.  Eat good, lots of protein and supplements.  As much sleep and a nap if possible.  So in other words the best rest and things into your body as possible.  The other thing I would suggest is not to age.  I would and have stayed with 39.

Took it easy at gym today. Just did a circuit training workout, felt good,
30 mins bike. Starting to feel a little more normal just for today.

Thank you so much for that Jason, very kind of you to look past my obvious flaws.  Dale and I have had some moments at games that I know I will never forget, thank you Dale.

BigScot,

Remember, the things you don't, are every bit as important as the
things you do. You need to plan for rest and recovery just as
carefully as you plan for hard work and training.
Cheers,

Carlos

You all have helped me to see the error in my ways.  I guess that I have not really had any planned "down time" either when I wasn't training or throwing.  I was using my "off" days to do my throwing, obviously, this is just further wearing me down.  Taking it really easy this week, light lifting, cardio, working indoor shot for braemar/throwing sheaf in gymnasium.  Thanks once again for all the suggestions, definitely taking them seriously.

Specifically for when you are overtrained already I'm going
out on a limb and I'm going to say that after 2 training
sessions in a row that go like that you should back off for
a few weeks in this way... If you are throwing and it
starts going that way drop it and switch throws... If THAT
one starts going the same way quit, you are done for the
day until your next training session.
If that doesn't help don't touch an implement for 2 weeks,
and don't lift for 1-2 weeks. Only work on footwork,
movement, and core. No throwing, no weights.

i've posted this a few times on here and it will give you some idea about over training:  I am now a firm believer in that college throwers over train. Lift 4 times a week, throwing 5 times a week in the off season. Lifting 3 times a week, throwing 4 plus a meet during season.  Being young, i guess the body does show the effects as much as I see some of the cats in there 30's and 40's. I should have known since every time I would come home for the summer, after 3-4 weeks of doing no lifting or throwing at all, i'd pick up a shot or disc and throw it around or above my PR range.  After I graduated, I didn't touch a shot put for a year(i only threw 1 highland games), lifted a few times a month. I decided to throw at a local open track meet. I threw 1" under my PR. I couldn't believe it.  If you have been lifting and throwing for awhile, be confident that a week off won't effect you much at all.

I took off about two weeks from gym, just did some light throwing twice a week.  Feeling much better now, legs are coming back.  Thank you all once again for your input.  Arlington is this weekend, hopefully my lack of training will help me this time.
