I recently had a hammer revelation, thanks to Mike Pockoski, Ryan Vierra and Kel Mulrey.  In short, I'd say that when you wind, go easy. You could  use a 12 lb hammer to do more winds.... but COMMIT your weight to one leg, and then COMMIT to the other. Don't wiggle your butt around while you sit in the middle of your nice wide base and pivot your arms back and forth. Pull your feet closer together to make your balance less...that's right, LESS steady, and COMMIT.

Come Game Day, then you open up your stance 4-6 inches for the stability, but by practicing with a narrower base, you will have forced yourself to develop the "feel" and the balance you need.

Is it better to do your winds like this with or without your blades on?
