We're going to have   a general winter "Bust the Rust off " throws day at Stanford University on Saturday, January 2nd.  New guys and ladies are welcome, we'll have most of the gear out.  Any newbs  from Nor Cal that want to give this stuff a shot, shoot me a PM and I'll get you hooked up.

Father Frost

In a far-away country, somewhere in Russia, there lived a stepmother who had a stepdaughter and also a daughter of her own. Her own daughter was dear to her, and always whatever she did the mother was the first to praise her, to pet her; but there was but little praise for the stepdaughter; although good and kind, she had no other reward than reproach. What on earth could have been done? The wind blows, but stops blowing at times; the wicked woman never knows how to stop her wickedness. One bright cold day the stepmother said to her husband:
wow power leveling,
"Now, old man, I want you to take your daughter away from my eyes, away from my ears. You shall not take her to your people into a warm hut. You shall take her into the wide, wide fields to the crackling frost."

The old father grew sad, began even to weep, but nevertheless helped the young girl into the sleigh. He wished to cover her with a sheepskin in order to protect her from the cold; however, he did not do it. He was afraid; his wife was watching them out of the window. And so he went with his lovely daughter into the wide, wide fields; drove her nearly to the woods, left her there alone, and speedily drove away--he was a good man and did not care to see his daughter's death. Following continue. wow gold,

Alone, quite alone, remained the sweet girl. Broken-hearted and terror-stricken she repeated fervently all the prayers she knew.

Father Frost, the almighty sovereign at that place, clad in furs, with a long, long, white beard and a shining crown on his white head, approached nearer and nearer, looked at this beautiful guest of his and asked:

"Dost you know me?--me, the red-nosed Frost?"

"Be welcome, Father Frost," answered gently the young girl. "I hope our heavenly Lord sent you for my sinful soul."

"Are you comfortable, sweet child?" again asked the Frost. He was exceedingly pleased with her looks and mild manners.wedding dress,

"Indeed I am," answered the girl, almost out of breath from cold.

And the Frost, cheerful and bright, kept crackling in the branches until the air became icy, but the good-natured girl kept repeating:

"I am very comfortable, dear Father Frost."

But the Frost, however, knew all about the weakness of human beings; he knew very well that few of them are really good and kind; but he knew no one of them even could struggle too long against the power of Frost, the king of winter. The kindness of the gentle girl charmed old Frost so much that he made the decision to treat her differently from others, and gave her a large heavy trunk filled with many beautiful, beautiful things. He gave her a rich cloak lined with precious furs; he gave her silk quilts--light like feathers and warm as a mother's lap. What a rich girl she became and how many magnificent garments she received! And besides all, old Frost gave her a blue dress ornamented with silver and pearls. This site is on the Crushers£ºcrusher¡£
wedding dress,
When the young girl put it on she became such a beautiful maiden that even the sun smiled at her.

The stepmother was in the kitchen busy baking pancakes for the meal which it is the custom to give to the priests and friends after the usual service for the dead.

"Now, old man," said the wife to the husband, "go down to the wide fields and bring the body of thy daughter; we will bury her."

The old man went off. And the little dog in the corner wagged his tail and said:

"Bow-wow! bow-wow! the old man's daughter is on her way home, beautiful and happy as never before, and the old woman's daughter is wicked as ever before."
wedding dress,
"Keep still, stupid beast!" shouted the stepmother, and struck the little dog. Went to eat, while repeat.

"Here, take this pancake, eat it and say, 'The old woman's daughter will be married soon and the old man's daughter shall be buried soon.'"

The dog ate the pancake and began anew:

"Bow-wow! bow-wow! the old man's daughter is coming home wealthy and happy as never before, and the old woman's daughter is somewhere around as homely and wicked as ever before."
wedding dress,
The old woman was furious at the dog, but in spite of pancakes and whipping, the dog repeated the same words over and over again.

Alan

Would like to get out there. I am guessing you and John are putting this together. Could you maybe have John and Morgan send out an email blast to those of us up here in NorCal. Time and directions to the throwing area of Stanford. Looking forward to it.

Thanks

Well, nobody showed up.  So I threw myself, coached a non-throwing friend who might help me out doing some demo's at Ren Faire, and called it a day.  I made a new caber and a new womens LWFD specifically for this event. Four people who specifically told me they'd be there, didn't show.

That's the last time I waste my time putting on such an event..

Yes, Popeye, I work out at Stanford.

Throw session this Sunday at 3:30.  It'll be at the Eucalyptus grove in between the soccer and lacrosse fields on El Camino Real.  Basically, it's right across the street from Palo Alto High School.

If it's pouring rain, we cancel.

Regular weekly practices will start mid-March depending on weather.  I'll probably have another day when I get out and throw casually, just to remember what end of the hammer to hold on to, in February. The first Games, or public event, anyway, is April 10th.

I suggest you guys look at the General forum, and find the thread about the SHA sheaf and WOB day. There will be lots of Nor Cal throwers at the clinic....just not me, unfortunately.

Right now is "off-season" so I'm not throwing much.  I'll probably pick a convenient time in February on a weekend and throw again. I'll put the date and time up here.

Regular throwing practice, meaning two weekday evenings a week will start probably the third week in March, more or less.  Precisely where on the campus that will be, in kind of up in the air, right now.

But look, don't let that stop you.  Hit YouTube and look at videos of the events. Get a 14-16 pound rock... Lyngso sells 'em and they have a scale.  Go out in a field and throw it and try to do what the good throwers do.

Read my thread about making gear on the cheap and make some. Look at YouTube, and go throw the stuff. If you don't have dumbell weights to use for making gear, then scan Craigslist, you can often pick up weights for cheap.   You can easily get started with 40 pounds of dumbell weights and  fifteen bucks worth of hardware from Orchard Supply or Home Depot.

I'll have most of the gear out at Stanford, in the Masters Grove, eucalyptus grove next Saturday (Feb. 20th) starting about 1:00.

The grove is on El Camino Real, about 1/4 mile south of the Stadium. It's between the two soccer/lacrosse/rugby fields. Look for the saltire flag which will be flying from a pole on the fence, or possibly out the back of my car.. You can park right close by on El Camino Real.

Popeye, we were there, you didn't show up.   Dude that is a REALLY bad habit to get into. If somebody brings the gear for you to use, loads it in his truck and hauls it down to the practice field and YOU DON'T SHOW, it's bad for the sport, bad for you, bad for me. You didn't even leave me a note, here saying you couldn't make it.

masterdouglas, yes... I will post open throws sessions ONE MORE TIME on this board. If guys who say they're coming can't be bothered to show up, and at least leave me a note, here, then screw it, I ain't botherin' any more.

Hey Alan I'm sorry but I was held over at work. I work the midnight shift and was planning to go home and sleep for a few hours and then go practice with you, but the way my job works if they are short staffed on the dayshift they hold over people from the night shift. I couldn't get to a computer to shoot you a message. I don't blame you for being pissed I would be too you've gone above and beyond to promote your sport, once again my apologies.
