Contact Daryl B I'm sure he can start you out in the right direction. His 13 year old daughter is fast growing to be one of the top "women" throwers!

My kids just train together  and do lots of Oly lifts and snatches and cleans and even some dead lifts. They bench some and Emily can bench about 145 at a body weight of 120. Her dead lifts are about 250 or so. Mostly they just go outside and throw. They yell at each other and make each other mad then they quit after awhile , then they throw farther the next time.

Mostly I think it helps to just have a chance to watch some videos, watch others throw and just do it yourself. My kids are freaks anyway. They just started throwing discus and shot a week ago and set some state records at their first track meet. The spin for weights seemed to transfer well to the discus and the shot isn't that much different than the stone.

Let me know if you want more info and I'll have Nathan (Crazysaladboy) give you some more pointers!
Yeah, those are all my kids. Same wife. Yes, there are eight.

Daryl -

How far did your kids throw the discus and shot?  I am curious to see if my guesses on the transfer from HG throws to track throws were close.  I was figuring Isaac should be able to throw about 140' with the 1.6kg disc and Emily should throw about 110-120 with the 1kg disc.

try throwing a small car tire (no rim just tire) it will force her/him to use the body and is not as bad as a weight on the ground

Dan Johns discus book has a some info on how to mix lifting with throwing for kids....good stuff......and its free!!!!!

Kevin,  Emily threw 98 feet and change and Isaac just over 130. Of course this was with the rubber practice discus'. Maybe a good one will go farther!

Daryl, I'm starting to think that God gives with both hands to the children of a minister.  He has blessed you with some true talent and ability in that clan of yours.
