    Posted: 1/13/09 at 2:32am

Ladies and Gents,

It appears I have either a pec or bicep tear on my right side; I am leaning more towards bicep as the entire arm is black from the elbow to the underarm...overtraining.  This has not prevented me from lifting upper body, but it is excruciating...stupid hurts!!!  So now that I am done lifting heavy, 315+, I am exploring other options; since lifting heavy has been my bread and butter, I am at a loss.  Obviously, my max and strength levels are going to suffer...I can handle 225 for reps with all grip variations, but am curious if this is detrimental.

Shoulder work?  Caber "cable" curls  (Smith)?  Lat work?  Db's instead of BB?

What can I do?  Anyone been here before?

Respectfully,

Duncan McCallum

Duncan,

Were you doing french pressess w/ 315 for reps again?

I don't have anything to suggest EXCEPT to stay POSITIVE brother.

Get well soon

Hahahahaha...Joel, you give me too much credit!  I apologize for throwing out numbers...it is a little self-aggrandizing, and I do not mean it that way...

I am staying as positive as I can...it positively sucks!!!  On the other hand, I am positive I will overcome this, as always.

Thanks for the encouragement JS!

Oh yes...I will be there.  Even if I have to throw left-handed...

I get the chance to meet some of the gentlemen I watched when I first started this game...of course I am going to go!

Duncan,

Why don't you go to a doc and get the extent of the damage determined?

Working on it...work schedule is keeping me in the office and out of the Doc's office.  In truth, I am only guessing about the condition of the bicep and pec; I made the call based on pictures of other pec/bicep tears I saw after researching the injury.  Maybe my sissyitis has flared up again...

How is the wheel Boss?

Still working on getting full ROM.  Hopefully by week's end.  Stitches come out next Tues.  Doc has been on vacation.

I tore my bicep 3 years ago. I felt it give. It was sore not much pain. It did
give it a month or two to heal. Saw the doc he told me I would only loose 10
% of my strength in the arm. And if they try to reattach it, your looking at a
year recovery. And the surgery needs to happen as soon as possible or they
may need to do other things. I don't do pull ups, deads are much lighter
and it can be a pain using a screw driver, and it looks very funny. I did not
get the surgery I know people who have and people who didn't get it
personal choice. If I had to do it over again i think I would have it
reattached.

A couple things.  The fix sometimes is determined by the time until the repair, so go see the doc.

What did you hurt it doing?  Pressing or pulling?  I have torn both, the bicep bled down the arm much more.  The peck was regional.

Go very high reps to help heal that.  Don't be afraid of a hundred.  Then work up heavier from that.

It is harder to fix the top of the bicep than the bottom.

I hate the overtraining line is so obvious from the wrong side and is so hard to see from the correct side.  Sneaky thing.

I don't know what to tell you about training, but I got my fingers crossed for you, brother.

So...you wrecked your knee and you bicep in less than 2 months.

I thought I was self-destructive.
