I am a college thrower and during the season we start out training four days a week (2 days on one day rest then another tow days on) and as the season winds don we digress to three days a week ( with days of rest in between each day) My question is should I use the same approach for highland games or change it. I currently am training four days a week and throwing two days a week. Is there a recommended or good mix of lifting and throwing, because I know besides being as strong as possible (in relation to the games events) I need to master the technique, so any advice is greatly appreciated. Also I do a lot of the same lifts that I do for track should I do these for highland games as well or are there certain things that translate better to highland games than they do for track? again any advice is greatly appreciated.

I saw your question hanging out there for a day or two. You will get plenty
of response on all sorts of training. I'm sure if your Track coach knows his
stuff your lifting is most likely spot on. As you know there are nine events in
the games and 2 ways to get the weight over the bar. Start with traditional
for WOB. First things first, if you don't have implements find a way of getting
them. This alone will make a difference the first year. Pick one or two events
every other day for 10 or 15 min per event. Film your self and watch other
video's of Pro's there is plenty of stuff out there. There are many of us who
use the same exercises for our training, but there a endless ways to get
there. Just be smart about it and go to clinics when they have them in your
area. I know it seems general but it's just a simple guideline. Good luck.

Welcome to the forum Vanilla-Gorilla

Stop by the office... bring a planner...and we will get you tlking to the right folks.  You know I got the hook-up.

BTW... Tom there are very few out there that can match you in the weight room....  and you are quick and have natural esplosion.  The injury you had is what has set you back even more then a year later. As you technique improves you will do much better.  For the games your technique is what should spend more time on.

Maybe I should get a pair of those shorty shorts you sport around before each games Josh and then my outfit will look a tad better. What do you think?
