Hi I am new here.  I am looking to compete with the top US women throwers, however I have no idea which games to go to to find you ladies.  I know Pleasanton is next(full), what is after that ? Thanks!!  Looking forward to seeing you on the field:)

See, Kristin.  You should'a made it to the Claw!!

Seriously, go to the Database page and click on to the "calender."   lt will show you past and upcoming Games, listing the classes that are available.  Be forewarned that a lot of ADs get carried away when they list the classes that they offer.  Often times, not all of the classes listed are actually being contested.  (l have no idea why these ADs do this!)  Check out their website (if they bother to add that info) or call or email the contact person to make sure that a woman's class is indeed available and that there is room for you.

Never (EVER!) just head off to a Games thinking that they'll have a Woman's class or that there'll be room for you when you get there!!!!!

My advice is to go out get a pretty dress ,get it a size or two too small to motivate ya. Stop liftin like the boys and start running. Then brush up on ur cooking skills so u can land ur self a good man, maybe a doctor! Forget about throwing and lifting that's for boys. I hear cross stiching is a great hobby for u dames.

I hope this is just a wise crack instead of coming from someone's (supposedly) wise crack (not talking out one's . . .).

Put these dates on you 2009 calendar.  These are the "must attend" games on the West Coast if you are looking to compete against the top US Lady throwers.

Portland Highland Games (7/18/09) www.phga.org

Enumclaw Highland Games (7/25/09 - 7/26/09) www.sshga.org

Pleasanton Highland Games (9/5/09 - 9/6/09) www.caledonian.org

I look forward to watching you throw next year!

That's really saying something, but most people here don't know what a good stone loader you are.  To be clear:  if all of the guys here trained at loading stones, she'd still load bigger stones than 95% of them.  Dead serious.

She certainly has, Craig.  l saw her marks from the Vista Games in Calif and l can see why Mark wants her to take up sewing.  She's gonna take a lot of attention away from him!

Hmmm... Are the vista games concidered a legit games?.. I only counted 4 total competitiors.. (2 ams.. 1 masters.. and 1 women)..

And out of curiousity why did you have to enter your own scores?.. was there an AD for the games?..

Don't get me wrong.. you have EXCELLENT starting marks..  I'm sure that you'll be playing with the best in the field soon..

However.. you need to start networking with the AD's out there, and get yourself into some competitions with more than 3 competitors.. Otherwise it's just a demo and your scores don't count.  (in terms of counting.. I want to be clear.. I mean they don't count towards your national rank, and can't be used to get you into the world championships..)..

In my personal experience.. the best advice I can give you in order to throw with the best competition is to travel. (as much as you can afford). Sometimes the best competiton you will face on the field.. may not be who you expected.  You'll also have a great opportunity to network and make new friends.

thanks Jeff!.

It looked so sketchy in the NASGA database.. ( i guess everyone just had to put in their own marks).

We are developing a top PRO womens field at the Cortland Celtic Festival in Cortland NY. There should be enough prize money in the womens class to at least cover a plane ticket. Heck - we pay better than the womens world champs...(which sadly isn't saying much)

The Spectacular Maine Highland Games also has a paid womens pro class. These are one week apart so maybe take a vacation in the Northeast next summer and hit these two games.

Thanks Jeff for finding those results.  I entered my marks because they hadn't been entered and I thought that is what you were supposed to do.

I travel A LOT for strongwoman competitions and it gets very expensive.  There are so many HG out there, I wanted to know which were the ones to go to.  The purpose of this thread was to network and find out where I should be looking to compete.  I am having a lot of fun throwing again and am looking to see where this goes.  Thanks to all for you help.

Kind of suprised how quickly some are to judge others though.....

I've had to enter my own marks into the database for every competition I've done. Many of the athletic directors don't bother with it. I think many of them are actually not aware of this website. If you want to see how you compare you often have to do it yourself.

Darlin - You should know by now that just because someone puts "AD" behind their name, it doesn't necessarily mean that they intend to perform all of the AD's functions.  There are even those who insist that adding scores to the database is not the AD's job!!

Why an AD would not be anxious to brag up their own Games is completely beyond me!!!!!!!

Will... Good minds think alike. Kristin and I have already been in contact.

Also, if you have any women up in Cortland that are not Pro's, let them know we hold the New England Women's championship the week before that. Most of the women (Maybe all... ) that were in Cortland are what we consider PRO in Maine, so it may be moot, but I thought I would toss that out to you.

I can see Kates confusion with the AD's not entering scores. Here in New England you have guys like Wayne Hill, Scott D, Ken Gustufson, Will Barron, etc... running games. We are spoiled.
