Sunday 7/10/16

Turned 44 today.

The family and I hiked Bear Hair Gap Trail this morning.  Cumulative distance of 5.1 miles and almost a 1000 foot elevation change, rated as Moderate to Strenuous depending on the guide, and a total hike time of about 4 hours.  The last time I hiked this trail was 2006, I think.  The difference this year:  I'm ten years older, I'm much stronger, and I did the whole time and distance while carrying a nine-year-old boy on my back.

Yeah, I'm 44.... 44 MAGNUM!

Chinese food, cake, and ice cream.  Win.

just working double shifts at work, which is nearly the same thing.   No throwing, but I have been getting the gym time in.  Last week was sixes and this week was triples.  I'm a little down on strength due to lack of sleep, but no injuries.

It looks like I have no games on my schedule until October, so I've got time to reorient.  Missing throwing is awful though, so I'm looking for breaks in the rain this weekend.

Still on double shifts and not on the field.  Dead  This should be the last week of it though.

I finished out a week of 5s in the gym last week and will be starting a week of 8s today.  Lack of sleep is killing me, but the end should be in sight.

In the meantime, I'm the enjoying the further of Hulkification of TROB.

Quietly slips back into the room...

Did you ever have one of those weeks where your strength is just down, everything hurts, and all your techniques feel off?  The whole past month has been that way.  No idea what brought it on, but it just as inexplicably fixed itself this week.

Last week was triples, so down to doubles this week:

Monday 8/22/16
Core and mobility and a daily dose of closed kinetic stuff

Tuesday 8/23/16

Push Press
  • 45x10, 65x10, 75x5, 95x5
  • Then doubles with 115, 125, 135, 145, 155, 165, 175, 185, 195
  • Even managed a single with 205.  PR.

Accessories

Wednesday 8/24/16

Dead Lift
  • 45x10, 75x10, 95x5, 115x5, all snatch grip
  • Then doubles with 135, 175, 215, 235, 255, 275, 295, 315, 335, 355, 375

Accessories

Friday 8/26/16

Squats!
  • 45x10, 75x10, 95x5, 115x5
  • Then doubles with 135, 155, 175, 195, 215, 235, 255, 275
  • Managed a single with 295

Done and done.  Powers be willing, it's back on the practice field this weekend.

Monday 8/29/16

Core and mobility
***PSA - bad things happen when a pull up bar suddenly releases from a door frame.  Worse things happen when it's got a green band at tension on it.  Ow...

Tuesday 8/30/16

Push Press
  • 45x10, 65x10, 85x5, 95x5
  • Then singles with 115, 135, 145, 1656, 185, 195
  • Missed 205 that I had gotten the previous week. No gas left and a bad headache from the previous night's impact.

Wednesday 8/31/16

Dead Lifts
  • 45x10, 75x10, 95x5, 115x5
  • Then singles with 135, 155, 175, 195, 215, 235, 255, 275, 295, 315, 335, 355, 375, 395
  • 405 wouldn't budge.  Another day...

Thursday 9/1/16

Bench Press
  • 45x10, 65x10, 85x5, 95x5
  • Then singles with 115, 135, 155, 175, 195, 215, 225, 235, 245

Friday 9/2/16

Squats
  • 45x10, 75x10, 95x5, 135x5
  • Then singles with 155, 175, 195, 215, 235, 255, 275, 295
  • Kind of sad that my bench press single is within 50 pounds of my squat single, but that's the body I've got.

Accessories and closed kinetic chain stuff sprinkled throughout.  All is well.

Tom

Wednesday 9/7/16

Push Press  Sets of 10 with 45, 65, 75, 85, 95, 105, 115

Single Arm Landmine Press 2x10 with 45

Dips 3x10

Cable Curls 10, 8, 6, 4

Looking at the calendar, we've got October booked with medical travel for medium Duncan and the boss lady has a marathon mid-month as a training run for another marathon in November (smh).  All to say, I don't think I'll make the two October Florida games I had in my plans.  Unless I can pull a later game somewhere, I may be officially in the off-season until 2017.  We'll see.

Bit of a non-update -- I was sick last week, but I trained anyway.  I got sets of 5 protocols in on Push Press, Dead Lift, and Bench Press, plus accessories.

Back in the gym tomorrow.

Finished out last week with 8s on squat and bench press.

I also loaded 155 bales of long leaf pine straw, drove them over a mountain, and  unloaded them at home.  GPP in spades.

Last week was doubles on everything and a couple of Yoda Hikes.  My CNS is shot and I'll be on travel a lot of this week, so it's deload time.

I have, however, bought a new tractor and reclaimed the practice field.  Soon... it will be hammer time.

It's nothing fancy.  I got the smallest John Deere I could with a differential lock, because I needed maneuverability but we don't have flat land here.  It will cut grass and push the little snow we get.

Deload week has begun -- Core, mobility, and landscaping.

Triples last week went fine --
  • Push Press up to 165
  • Deads up to 335
  • Bench up to 185
Plus lots of accessories.  I'm still struggling with some weakness and lasting fatigue.  Just pushing on through and trying to get better sleep.

Starting 6s this week.
