I will be hosting the Bitterroot Valley Highland games competition on April 23 at 11am in Corvallis, Montana. This is an SAAA event. All events will be contested Classes include Mens A,B,C, lightweight, Novice, Masters, and Women Registration and information is available on the website: http://www.bitterrootscottishirishfestival.org/ Yes, I know this is the Saturday before Easter, however it is the only Saturday I have free because of coaching track and field. This is my first of hopefully many many more competitions I will be hosting in the great state of Montana.

I really wanted to attend this event. But...I just saw this. Until 10 minutes ago, I was thinking the games were going to be held in August like last year. Was checking the website pretty regularly until late Feb. / early March. How and when did this April business come about?

Well, Jason you can still attend the games in August, because this is the Bitterroot Valley Highland games, and the one in August is the Bitterroot Scottish-Irish Festival. This April business is just me getting more people in Montana interested in competiting in the Highland Games. I am hoping to host a few more in Montana during June and July.

And Bitterroot Valley Ammunition and Components (BVAC) makes some excellent ammo-- recommended to my highland games friends. You can buy it thru cheaperthandirt.com and lots of other distributors. End of hijack; good luck with the competition. A beautiful part of the country! |

As for hosting my first competition, it was a lot of work. All of you that are involved in hosting competitions; you have my utmost respect. Especially, since I built all handles (D-ring & Circular), found the perfect stones, sewed the Sheafs, lathed the fork handle, Built a 20' WOB standard, and 40' Sheaf standard, made the trigs, cut down and peeled the cabers. It was all worth the time! All the events went smoothly with a small group of 12 competitors. A huge thank you to Doug Ray for driving a long distance to judge the event to make it a sanctioned SAAA event! We had a lot of new Highland game throwers, as well as Andrea Montague showing the boys how it is done. We got a lot of good press from the local newspapers to draw more interest to the Bitterroot Scottish-Irish Festival in August. http://ravallirepublic.com/image_1c0b0690-6eec-11e0-8ef9-001 cc4c002e0.html The fine gentleman of SAAA Idaho will be running the BSIF highland games. This is a games not to miss. There will be around 8,000 spectators coming through the gates at the upcoming festival. It is a beautiful venue covered with shade of 100 year old maple and cottonwood trees at the Daly Mansion in Hamilton, MT. It would be a great place to take the family for a Montana vacation. I've thought about putting together a Bitterroot River Kilted fly fishing/rafting trip the day before the competition. Go to http://www.bitterrootscottishirishfestival.org/ for more information on the festival. Garrett Middleton
