What kinda volume is recommended for throwing heavier stones? Our open stone here in Alaska is 20lbs, and our Braemar is 23lbs. I've got a couple of 20lb stones and a 28lb stone to practice with.
How many total throws and how many throws with the 28 are recommended in a week? Also, should I just stick to braemar throws with the heavy stone, or could I do my full glide as well? |

I would say alternate your braemer with a lighter stone as well. actually lighter then the open stone you use in Alaska. Perhaps a 14-16 pound stone to help improve your technique and not fry your nervous system or overtrain your muscles. You could take more throws with the lighter stone that way as well. Say 5 stands and 10-15 full throws with the lighter one. Then train Braemer with 5- 10 to full throws.

Good point on the smaller stone. I'll have to go pick one up. As far as frequency/volume, does 20-30 throws/day twice a week sound good for stone? I mean, it's the event I need the least work on, so maybe that's too much? I'm limited on the other implements, so I don't get much training with them. |
