I wanted to comment on the issue of practice.  I love to practice.  I find it pure.  I am alone there with my thoughts.  There is nothing external to push you, it all comes from inside.  There is nobody to impress, just a battle with youself.  It is an internal struggle that you win or loose.  The victory all belongs to you and regardless of the distance, there is a certain victory one feels leaving the field.  You feel good about the fact you went out and strived to improve, you worked to be a better man, you efforted when there was nobody watching and no reward other than your self gratification.  And is that not really what we all have to live with?  Ourself.

Speaking of Iverson, notice how he wants to play now and no team will sign him.  Wonder if dude should have practiced?  Paid millions and won't show up to practice?  You wonder how people get so nuts?

Wish I could be you.  I don't relax during practice...ever.  I don't relax during fiddle practice, coding practice, throwing practice...hell I am pretty sure I never relax.  I can rarely look at a throw and go...'well that was nice'.  Nope...I hate every throw I make.

That doesn't mean I don't try.  I try because I occasionally see better results.  I try because I love the effort of figuring stuff out.  I try because I have some weird thing in my head that says..'huh, looks interesting'.  I keep going and pushing just to see where I can get.

Wish I could be like you...I see how some athletes are in these games...it comes so natural to them sometimes...nice.  I know art when I see it, but I can rarely produce it.

I too (like Myles) thoroughly enjoy the privilege of being able to train/practice

this quote from coach Knight I find very true

“The key is not the "will to win" . . . everybody has that. It is the will to prepare to win that is important.”

practice is 100% my time.No boss, coach, pressure or limits.I feel free and strong when I am outside under
the stars after a twelve hour shift.I practice cause I can't attend a game every week and I love to throw.   The only bad practice I have ever
had is when thoughts of the outside world linger in my
mind.I overcome by focusing on specific skills and just
doing the work.If you can overcome the off days and still get something positive out of the session you will have just added another tool to the box.
One day we will all look back at the time when we could throw and miss it!

Ya'll making me jealous of this no pressure stuff.  Not sure I know how to do that.  It carries over into my games too...like this weekend's sheaf...

...dang...I just couldn't figure it out and that made me try even harder to work it out.  Went from 2nd in KC battling at 29....to not even clearing 24 this weekend.

...but with that...practice and dedication has it perks.  Cleared 15'6" this weekend on WOB!!!  Goal this season was 15!

I'll continue to practice, but I wonder where I will find this no pressure just enjoy throwing thing...is there a magic pill?

Today I had a TERRIBLE day in the gym and then went out to throw for a while and had a hard time all the way up to heavy hammer of which I threw a 59' 9"... I'm a little guy and it isn't AWESOME but it is a personal best. Which makes it awesome anyways. Some days just suck though. Try competing with a partner and challenging each other for distances/ heights or take a couple days just working on form and getting full extensions instead of just going balls out when you feel like the weight is going to crush you to death.

PRs are awesome Tommi.  If your heavy hammer is 60 feet or 600 feet, a PR is a PR, and you are to be commended on hitting one.  Don't sell yourself short.

Mate, practice without a tape measure.

Just throw for the feel. Sometimes having the measurement is counter productive. If a throw begins to "feel" good, rather than "is" good (in terms of distance thrown) then you can work on efficient technique and not get yourself frustrated.

That's not so much my idea as a certain Mr Sandford's.

He knows a thing or two. And whether it's using his hammers or the advice he gave, or this year is just better - I'm throwing lifetime PB's right now.
