I'm in the East Bay area and am looking for someone to show me the ropes.  Maybe there's someone inbetween.

There are a few athletes around. A few of us live in the Brentwood area and that is only about an hour from you. We have not set a day to practice anytime soon but keep checking back with me. My email is

bill@toshandassociates.com

You should also consider going to the Watsonville games and compete in the C division or depending how old you are a masters division. We old guys are pretty competitive. Good Luck

I have a small practice group at Stanford Univ.  The July schedule is kind of a mess since I'll be out of town a lot and then there's the North American Champs in Enumclaw, but as a very, very general rule, we practice on Thursday nights.

Scottish Heavy Athletics has a Facebook presence. They're the Nor Cal organizers. If you're on FB, add the group and put up a note.

Started by just getting a 16lb stone and a 26lb stone and throwing those,,getting about 27' with the 16lb and right at 20' with the 26lb,,feels awkward but gonna get it down if it kills me,,lol   Also getting a 28lb weight for the wfd, made up and should start on that this next week,,gonna try and get into a novice group at the Fresno Games in sept . Taking the plunge and cant wait :)

I doubt your the oldest to pick up the sport.  A guy with our practice group here in SoCal picked up the sport at the age of 57...impressive.
Drink to the fame of it, honor the name of it, The Tartan.
