Nice piece, but what the hell's a Spoofhound?

McKim surges to top of Highland Games

Legend has it ...

Years ago the football coach was mad at the players for a
horrible practice. He said they were playing like a bunch
of "Spoofhounds." His meaning was that they were being
"lazy dogs." So, yes, my school's mascot is a lazy dog.

There have been a few articles done on the world's worst
mascots and, no surprise, the Spoofhounds usually make the
list.

Dan-Have you ever been to Columbia Hickman?  Their colors are light blue and orange.  Their mascot is the kewpie doll.  Their gym is light blue with big orange KEwpie dolls painted on the walls.  There has to be a story behind that one.  I can only assume someone lost a bet on that one.

I've heard of that! Who knew Kewpies were so intimidating.
I've also heard Putnam County (Missouri) has a great mascot
name too, or used to.

Man, I forgot about that.  I think that is still what they are called.  Surprised nobody has made a fuss over that one.

Rose O'Neill who is the creator of the Kewpies was from that area and was
world famous for those little guys. My Mom is a collector. Thanks for the
great christmas idea. That school also sells shirts.

I went to Central MO State and played football with a guy from Columbia Hickman, I thought they should at least be the Fighting Kewpies

There's a small town near here called "Castor".

The women's basketball team used to be the Raiders.

THAT is solid naming.

Great article. One of the events listed in the article is "the Maide Leisig". What is that?

The politically correct version would be the Putnam County "Little People"

We're not too PC in Missouri. When I was in Columbia as a student at Mizzou I always wondered why in the hell I'd see people with kewpies on their shirts until I heard about the high school. Just aint right seeing kewpies painted on everything.

Here is what happened to Stanford when they changed from the Indian's to
the Cardinal (color). The Indian Chief that drove 6 hours one-way to come to
all the Home football games died of a broken heart when he was forced to
stop coming to the games. True story.

Who can blame the poor guy...another victim of PC crapola. The
Cardinal, almost as stupid as their mascot, a tree. I like the UC Santa
Cruz Slugs....nice. Of course, their big sport is team frisbee but what
the heck...
