Hey guys, can anyone tell me what the qualifications are to go from "B amature" to an "A"? I need something to shoot for here. Thanks a lot.

***When someone wins a B division competition AND accomplishes this by throwing 3 of the following 4 marks (in that game), then he moves to the A division:
25 feet - 56# WFD
50 feet - 28# WFD
60 feet - 22# Hammer
11 feet - 56# WOB

In a word, throw betta'!  Cereally, hit four of these marks,
 17# Stone = 36' or 22# Braemar, 31',
 28WFD = 52",
 16# Hammer = 90' or 22# = 73',
 56WFD = 26',
 56WOB = 12',
 20# Sheaf = 20' or 16# = 26'
and you're an A athlete anywhere that you go!!

Throw far and throw safely!!!!  Oh!  And have fun!

That certainly would cut down on a lot of work when hosting the MWC!!  Huh?

Man, last year I got moved up from b's to a's without everwinning a b comp.... (bitch, bitch, complain, complain). Will admit though, it's caused me to step up my game. I'm actually glad it happened. Grumpy, but glad.

You forgot to mention that the guy that beat you at your last B outing also got moved up!

  Hey! If you guys are going to use stupid intellect and logic to counter my girly complaining, well... you're taking all the fun out of it.  Realistically I did deserve to be moved up, and I'm glad I did. It's not only made me a better athlete, but in a wierd way, I think the extra challenge made me a better person.

Wally- you were right. I was wrong . Now if I could only improve my sheaf! (I'm thinking about spinning... no, no, rockets! That'll work).

Question for all:

I am going to be entering my first contest in March '08 never having thrown before.  With that being said, I will have to start as a C class?  Or a B class if no C's are available?

Or, conversely, would I simply enter as an amateur and ask to have my distances recorded as C or B?

Not sure where I am going to come in...just want to earn my bones like everyone else!

Respectfully,

Duncan McCallum

I started throwing this last June.  I went to the calendar here on NASGA & found the contact info for the AD's in Utah. Some games are limited by field size or time so not all games can accomodate the learning curve of newbies. Just let the AD's know that your starting out & I'm sure they'll be more than willing to help.  After that just throw and the rest will take care of itself.

Good luck

To expand on what Joel said, you'll start in the lowest class available at that Games.  Some Games even have a class just for novices.  Let the AD know that you've never competed before and the AD will figure out the best place for you to start.  Once having competed, you'll know which class to ask for in the future.

Not to worry, Dunk.  Your marks will speak for themselves!

Joel and Wally,

Thanks for the information!  When it gets closer to the season I will contact the AD's in the area and see what happens.  Hopefully the learning curve is not too great...would not want to be TOO embarassed following Baab, Melius, and Kincheloe.  Hopefully the kiddie table is not too far from the action.

Again, thanks for the input.

Respectfully,

Duncan McNoobins
