Hi, This is Penny Ferency, Paul's wife. We're in the surgical admission area at
Hackensack University Medical Center. In two or so hours Paul will be the
proud owner of a state of the art 4XL titanium hip. Who would've thought
35 years of throwing heavy objects and countless reps in the weight room
would lead to this? I'm typing as he's speaking; the humor is just as bad
when he's on medication. Talk to you soon! Penny

Have fun on those meds Paul!  Good luck with the procedure.  I am surprised Valenti is not there to suck up to you and stay by your side with Penny!

In preperation for his long recovery Paul came down to my place and cleaned me out of every book and video that I own.

Good luck Pauly.

Good luck Paul.  For what it's worth, I have known three people who got hip replacements and all of them say that it feels better two weeks after surgery than for the years leading up to it.

HIP --- UPDATE

Dr. Hartzband just came out to see me and said the surgery went fine.
Here's some quotes. "He's a beast. Everything went fine....He could go
home today or tomorrow. Tomorrow, he's too big to go home today." Paul
will really appreciate that when he awake. He said he won't be out of
recovery until about 3:00. They must have really drugged him up! Thanks
for all your well wishes. ~Penny

Paul,

Good luck with the recovery. Does this mean you will now become the "Bionic Highland Athlete?

I bet the anesthesiologist  had to call in a horse doctor for a consult.

Good luck on a fast and full recovery.

Cheers,

Yes but did you send him a bouquet?

I did him one better... I sent him a bouquet of hoagies.

Bethlehem here I come with my very own 190-195 pound Matthew McConaughey look-a-like pro class!

At the end of the day I'll be the World Champion and hold all the field, American, North American, and world records!

I heard that in order to put him under they flew over Paul in a helicopter and shot him with an elephant tranquilizer. Before he wakes up they will be installing the harmless tracking device around his neck.

That's mean, insulting, and a flat-out lie.

Paul's NEW HIP-- UPDATE

I was able to see Paul for about 15 minutes at 3:00 (couldn't get on here
earlier). He was sitting up shoveling in the food on the tray...blabbing
away! They had him up and walking (with a walker) already. I know many
of you have not seen him lately, but his right leg would be turned out
when he would sit.   His hip was that bad.   The first thing I noticed when
I saw him in the recovery room is that his legs/knees were both facing
straight out and his knees were closer than together than I've seen in a
very long time. (hold the jokes to a mimimum please!
JavaScript:AddSmileyIcon('')!!!

To Mjurkoic: His goal is to be throwing again! Thanks for the reply!

He'll be expecting the hoagies, ya know! I don't want to have to cook for
him...hint, hint!

He's doing well and they expect him to go home tomorrow!

I'd love to share a hoagie (or 12) with him sometime.

Get well big man.  Would be great to see you again.

Don't want to make you feel older than you are but- Niki is expecting our third grandchild in Nov.  Finally got a boy coming.

The beast in action:

Celtic Classic, WFH World Record 17'-7 on video page

I'd travel to see the beast in action again, for sure. Sorry about the direct link, Kurt. Please delete if necessary.
