Yesterday I was supposed to pull 2 sets fo 5 reps with 10 cinders.

I got overzealous in my warmup and felt a twinge of something low back area while pulling a single with 10 blocks.

That being said I was not injured. Went on to do a brutal set of 5 reps.

Rested and bit and did 5 more singles. A short rest in between reps.

After reviewing my video I noticed I did a warmup with 10 cinders. Then the 1 set of 5 and the 5 singles. Comes to a total of 11.

2 more than last week.

Still barefooted from my deadlifting session I picked up my medium stone and went for a Husafell stone walk. Down to the telephone pole and back.

I did all of this while trying to keep and eye on the baby monitor. Daughter was napping and I almost dropped the rock on the monitor.

My wife would have killed me for that one.

Finished the session off with some protein and pb cups and milk.

Today at lunch i will grab my ax and chop on some wood for few minutes to get the blood flowing.

More chopping 2 morrow then rest a few days. Council with Mule and go from there.

Probably should have introduced myself.
Jason Irvin 39 - Tuscaloosa, AL .started training and hanging out with Myles 13 years ago.
Competed in my first HG 11 years ago. Haven't been able to throw or train much in last 4 years.
There was always an excuse. Too tired from construction, to broke to have a gym membership.
Wife's too pissed at me. Kids don't travel good. on and on.
But I always trained a little. Found some spots here and there to make my own implements and gear at the house.
I experimented with different cycles, rep ranges, etc. etc. All with just 2 main movements.
Deadlift and overhead pressing.
5 months ago a got a new job sitting at a desk doing graphic design. They give me an hour for lunch. I make use of it.
Myles taught me a lot about determination and gaining strength. But even more about putting things in priority like faith and family and WEEDING OUT the other stuff that gets in the way of the people you love and the things you love to do.
Proud to call him my friend and brother in steel. (even if most of mine is concrete)

I could be overtrained. I'm a little sore. My mind is playing tricks with me.
I got 2 kids at home with the flu. Should I keep pushing or hit the rest button.

But i'm thinking I will push my heavy stone overhead tomorrow and see.

Active recovery week. Did some ax swings, pushups and ran up a hill a few times this week.
More wood choppin today then next week start ramping up. Merry Christmas to everybody.

No video. Most of it would have been of me sharpening my ax anyway.

After setting a new deadlift PR in my backyard gym Monday. I plan to deadlift with Myles at the Y on my birthday in 2 weeks. I want to see how my strength gained in my unconventional home gym translates to the gym weights.

Good luck Jason.  I think the biggest thing you will notice is starting with the bar lower.

Thanks Tom.

Today was stone test. Previous best was 8 reps. Today I did a warmup of 1 with my Med stone and went right to clean and press with my big stone. Got 9 solid reps today. Could tell I was sore in the erector region from Mondays PR.

I am considering doing both my cinder deadlift and stone press the same day next time? not sure.
Hate to do anything too different since this is working.

I had a nice plate of leftover fried chops and greens plus conebread after. But I ate it before I could take the picture.

my gym is frozen over. My rig that I built out of treated 2x6's and has the cinder blocks on it. Has frozen to the ground. I think I'll wait till Wed to train. 15 degrees in Alabama is not right.

I know. We are spoiled here in Dixie with climate.

I tried to work on a caber i cut down Saturday for Myles. It was frozen too.

I did some stone drills. Sprints to warmup. Stand x 5 ; South African x 5.

Really felt good today. Put on my throwing shoes and went to my outdoor gym.

I did some warmups and then added 1 cinder to each side and did 2 sets of 5 Squat+Behind the neck push press. I don't know what you call it. Craig's done them. Saw of video of Jake doing them. Looked cool. wasn't all that bad.

JERK BOXES I'd like to build a set of jerk boxes. I've got plenty of steel. Wood. Concrete. Any known  drawings or photos of what most people use?

Thanks amigos.

Thanks to Myles for being a true friend when I needed it. I missed about 3 weeks due to personal issues. Started working out with Myles again back at the YMCA.

Until last night, squat night. My work let out early due to the snow (i don't have 4x4). So I headed south. Met the coach of my old High School and he let me use the gym. I was so excited to have a place to squat. ended up doing 3 sets of 5. 135,225 and 225.

Did some Overhead squats for warm ups before and did some trap bar jump squats after.
Just knockin the rust off.

Looking forward to seeing Myles Friday.

Hey Tom, You were right. The biggest thing I noticed was the bar being waaay lower than my homemade rig. But it came up real smooth. Can't wait to pull again.
