At the end of last season, I was tired. Tired of hurting. Tired of feeling busted. Tired of making everything feel like work. After much discussion with wise men and other busted up "athletes" (sup Jeff), I decided to all but drop the o-lifts for a year and do way more foam rolling and static stretching. Just do some snatch pulls as a concession to being an athlete (and for the traps) and see what happened then. Shockingly (not) my knees started to feel better.
Then another "wise" man finally convinced me to cheat and buy some Inzer Power Pants. "It'll save your knees, dude." he said. I didn't humanly see how, but I've spent $40 on way stupider things than that, so I bought me some Spanks For Men and rolled with it. Suddenly, Squat Day wasn't so bad.
More discussion ensued and I slowly started doing something I said for years "Doesn't really work for me." Volume work. Not like endless sets or anything else. Just isolation work up to 25 or 50 reps, quick and dirty at the end of a workout.
531 and the BBB mod v2.0 followed and has been cruising along for about a month and a half. And now I don't struggle with max singles. I don't grind out reps. I do "AMRAIFL" (As Many Reps As I Feel Like). I end my workouts seeking the illusive "pump".
Wanna know something crazy? I feel pretty good. I'm casually moving some decent weight. I don't hurt very much at all. And I almost look like I lift weights (Those that know me will realize THAT isn't normal).
There's going to be a whole pile of young fire pissers and old diehards that are going to laugh and scoff but I just don't care. I'm going to sit here on my throne of skulls and smile and actually enjoy my gym time again :)
In conclusion:

You don't need to. I just assume the period at the end of every sentence symbolizes hugs.

I'm pretty close to dropping the lifts, in-season, in favor of bodybuilding. Which is WEIRD for me. But even pulls are making me sore in a not-very-good-way.
I've been doing this on everything: Per exercise, pick a weight I can do a max 12-13, say 90 pounds. Set 1 - 30lbs x 20, 30 seconds rest Set 2 - 60lbs x 10, minute rest Set 3 - 90lbs x 10, 30 seconds rest, Set 4 - 90lbs to failure, 30 seconds rest, Set 5 - 90lbs for however many reps it takes to get 20 total reps at 90lbs. I'm going to try to do singles on the lifts once a week, but we'll see. |

All I ever used to do was bodybuilding. But those types of lifting don't do very much for throwing things far. This year I am doing the most Olympic movements I have ever done. And it seems to have helped my throwing. But I still do some bodybuilding lifting. By the way which Jeff you talking about Todd? Remember you're on my list. And I thought you were singing up for the Worlds. I don't see your name on any list but mine.
