I used to use an old video camera to tape my throws and
then watch to do some self coaching. The camera played
out several years ago and I really feel that instant
feedback is missing from my throws training.

Any ideas for a good camera that I could use to tape
myself throwing? Here are some criteria I have:
1. Needs a decent size screen so that when I can play
back my old, failing eyeballs can actually see it.
2. Needs to be something I can set up on a tripod or
something for I'm throwing by myself (which is when I
need it most anyways.
3. Something not super exspensive....so when I drill it
with an errant hammer throw I'm not seen bawling like a
baby by my neighbors.
4. Something I can easily download onto the internet so
if I do something really funny I can get a millions hits
on youtube.

I'm looking at a Kodak Playsport Zx5.

Craig, you'll love this story. In 1996 I was throwin' in
Estes and my brother was there. I had this VHS camera that
was TWICE as big as the one above. My brother taped a "3"
on it and kept walking around the barriers and whenever
somebody would say, "you can't be there" he'd say "Channel
3 News" and they'd wave him thru! And another thing...I
wish I still had that much hair.

Thom, I think an iPad might just be perfect for you except for the tripod
part

An iPhone or an iPod touch would also work pretty well and tripods are
a bit easier to come by for these.

Most digital cameras have a video mode to capture to your memory card inside.  They'll also mount on a tripod.  However, you are limited to seeing it on the camera's screen until you upload the files to a computer or connect it to your TV.

the one I have is a Panasonic. I couldn't say one works much better than another, all Panasonics work pretty well. but I would say look for one with a built in Hard drive, instead of a disk or mini dv tape one. I hope you find what you need, my friend.

I recently have been looking for another Flip camera since mine was stolen along with my laptop with all of my throwing video on it! I liked mine for ease of use, but I heard they are going out of business or phasing their products out. Target and Bestbuy stores no longer carry them, but bestbuy.com still has them.
