I just grab it for WOB, leaving it down in the fingers as opposed to in the palm.  I don't find the hook necessary.  I'm pretty sure Zolk is the same way.

I don't hook grip in standing WOB. Never had any problems and I have the grip strength of a 10 year old girl.

personally I use the standard grip, letting it hang in my fingers. can anyone describe the benifits of the hook grip over this grip?
I'm just an idiot, pretending to be smart.

This is true.  18' standing is sick, and I would take gladly take advice from any of the ~10 people in the world that have done it.

But like I stated, I think Zolk doesn't hook though, but we can wait and see what he says.

Use the search function.  Presumably, you are already using the hook grip on your WFDs.

I'm in agreement with Matt on this one.  I feel that the hook grip gives me 6 inches more.  You can be more aggressive on the pull, while keeping your arm relaxed.  The thumb is your strongest finger. Use it. It may help with a consistent release, as well.
