Don't know if this has been beaten into the ground yet, but what are your views on throwing kettlebells if you don't have the implements to train with? It has to be better than nothing right? For example using them for WFH and WFD.

Very different feel. I will do some turning drills with the kettlebells but the
chain makes the action on the weight multiply the force you can generate,
which makes it harder to control. The weight with a chain will always go
farther, but is harder to control.

Limit your time throwing a kb. It would be better to get some weight
plates welded together or some other contraption with a chain than to
spend too much time with a kb throwing. I know that pud throwing is a
good training tool but only that. IMO you have to practice with the
implements to throw farther. No substitute.

On another note I love to train with kettlebells but only lifting and
swinging them, not throwing them.

I took it a step farther and put a removable chain and handle on a plate loaded KB 

or you could look at "the ballistica"(sp) from Sorinex for all your highland game need

Thanks guys! I will continue to throw them as they are all I have at the moment, but I will try to go get a chain and handle to add to them as soon as I can. I understand that you need the real deal to get the real feel!

I know Don Stewart used them a lot for practice and obviously was very good.

Great off season for heavy rotation and release work. Alot of heavy single turns ( wfd ) and release- great for beefying up the hips. Research PUD training- for the various movements big among the soviet hammer throwers back in the day. Accelerate and release for a strong and beefy core. KB Halo winds - I wish I discovered these earlier to assist my shoulder stability/rotational strength.

KB release movements-Just a good supplement when your lifting heavy. Key is to go very heavy and release/rotate the core.

KB/PUD releases on my agenda for Jan. Got a great review from the Shoulder Doc yesterday - I'm close to full range of motion ( after 4 months ), the strength level will need some more time.

Okay, I will back up a bit. Training with puds/kbs to throw is definitely a
great tool but I would again recommend to get a weight with the proper
length chain to train with.

17/20 on the comeback road. Great to hear, we will need to fire up the
training again.

Bill, I train WOB with a 20 lb kettle bell, and have been wanting to increase the weight so I can get up to 28 lbs.  If I understand you correctly, If I put some plates together with a couple chains and a handle, I'll be able to pull more weight.  Is that right?  Beth

Hi Beth, Essentially I was just giving directions to make a homemade weight.
As for training with a 20 lb kb for the wob, if you are trying to improve with
the 28lb weight, I would recommend getting your implement up to 28 lbs.

When I compete as a Master I have to work on the 42 lb weight as I have
trouble with timing if only working with the 56lb weight. So timing and not
just strength would be another reason to use the 28lb implement.

1" (standard) weight plates, with a 1" bolt thru them and an "eye nut" (can
use smaller bolts and eye nuts, but you need to sleeve the bolt to fill up the
holes in the plates. You can add/subtract plates as needed. The eye nuts are
expensive, but are easy to use
