Myles scolded me for being lazy in my Highland training.

ouch!

I HATE it when people with great big scars all over 'em in all the wrong places scold u for not wearing your big girl pants when you're a lucky bastard who feels fine.

"cause they sure are out there tossin' it 'round.

SO, I went out in 50 degree weather w. a cold misty light drizzle CAUSE I TOLD Myles I would.

800mgs Ibu and 2 caffeine pills.

2 big glasses of green tea

12lb hammer - quiet -I like to start slow and eeeease in . Took a while but finally got loosened up in that weird hammer way and threw last one 115ish. Didn't pull any of those weird little hammer pull things in the back
28 - 45, 60 , 63 , 65 ,65 (working out some bugs here - was not sinking down hips in turns to generate GO power) 66 , 67 , 68. Big time happy with this.
20lb stone BR - did the whole separation and fronts and step overs drills like  a good little putter., best bout 37 - happy with this . My goal is to get my 22br back up over 36/37 and ostone  over 44.
Wob -  took bout 10 right and left handed - barely grazing my 17ish practice branch. Pissed
Out of the blue I decided to spin - been 5 years since I was any good at it . Worked my way up from 12-13 feet to 16 ish w.out throwing at anything.
Decided to get snorty widdit and PULL a bit and go step out 4 small steps and dig a line in the grass.
Swing swing , pull way high arc , twist down to the ground ahead of it poised to go and pull it DOWN w. torso and stand UP w, hips and try to just hold on.
Third one smacked into the 19 footish branch

Ummmm, do we spin in Calgary?

We're off!

First, I did not scold you, well ok I might have some.

Second, I am telling Don your spinning.  Mr. I am going out and practice for the first time and toss it 66 feet and not sinking my hips down.  You can kiss the back of my hips.  Athletic bastard.

Well today was my first seriuos day throwing ever! man do I need lots of work. Since I live in  the country I have a lot of room and set-up a little throwing field, I must say that it was FUN, and a good work out. I threw each 10 times with a break for lunch after 5 throws. I'm not sure if 10 is to many or not enough? any input is most welcome here. So here are the results:
Braemar Stone: mine is 22 lbs and not a smooth river rock, still looking for one of those. 22';21'-2";21';21';20'-10";21';19'-6";21;19'-2";21'-9".

Light Hammer: I put together a 16lb'er with a sch 80 pvc pipe handle that I rough up a little with a file, did not use any tacky or wear gloves for better grip, 61'-6";62';Fouled;61';62;55';51';55'-10";60';61'-2". I find it kind of funny that my 1st-2nd and 5th throw all landed with in a 10" circle, that be a pretty good group if I was aiming.

WOB: I use a plate rig with some old concrete filled lifting weights, and a D-handle that I made total weight is just under 27lbs. first 5 throws rolled over a 16' limb they would have knocked off the bar if it had been one, next 3 were just under the limb then another roll over and my last throw went clean over the limb

WFD: using the same rig as WOB 33';32';29'-4"; and then I just tried to practice my foot work, the cast pivot and turn move, puts me over half way across the back of the box. I got the VP productions DVD's for Christmas and have been studying them, but need lots of foot work practice.

Did not throw my caber, am going to do some work to it tomorrow.
Hope to be meeting some of you at a games later this year.

Jamie, video the throws and post. You will get very precise critique that way. Are you a Masters thrower? When is your first game?

KiltBill: Yes to a masters thrower (50 yrs young). I might make the Iron Thistle in Ok city in March if not then first games well be Arkansas Scottish fest in April. I have been talking to my wife and she may viedo me next weekend, the challenge is that I live in the county and only have dial up for internet, uploads and downloads take !@#$ing forever.

As for the caber this morning I shaved it down to a smaller more manageable diameter at the lower end, but still can not keep it under control (balance) to toss it, I did however get a couple of steps in after the lift but was not able to keep it up.   Think I'll go buy a 6x6 and start a little smaller.

Well today I have 5 feet of snow in my front yard and it almost was up above
freezing today. No throwing yet outdoors for a couple of months so thanks

dear baabalonian: i have it on good authority that spinning in the wob is illegal in alberta, and punishable by extradition to quebec.

there you will be forced to eat crepes suzette and listen to jimmy c newman records, of which the locals will say:" well, dere are french words in dere, but dey mean notting to me.."

so, stand and be counted, like a man.
