Newbie near San Antonio

Greetings!

New, old guy here. I recently moved to TX and I want to compete in the San Antonio games in April. I'm looking for someone or a group that might be willing to help a noob get going.

In all honesty I am not ready to throw. I competed in Strongman (lightweight) for quite a few years. But I'm coming off a 5 month hiatus and just getting under the bar again. But I should be ready to get my butt kicked by April and the San Antonio games.

Fold a table cloth around your waist & say you're from Clan McPicnic.

Srsly, tho, contact the AD.  Might be able to arrange a loaner.  We're a good community that way.  Actually, we're a good community in most ways.

I had recently partook in a game and was approaching the time that I needed a kilt asap.  I went to sportklt.com, told them when I ordered it that I needed it quickly, and they overnighted to me without charging me extra.  Great customer service through them.  You might want to check them out.  Getting a custom made kilt from Scotland can take sometimes more than two months to get in (a current situation that I am dealing with.)  Check on sportkilt.com, should be able to get what you need before the San Antonio games without any problem.

Is there anyone throwing near San Antonio?

I suppose I need to get my own implements... I’m blessed to have some land that I can practice on. So is The Old Celt the best place to get the implements? I assume I need to find my own caber - about 18'? 20'? About how heavy?

I can send you a kilt with Ace Boswell down to the Austin Games, no problem.  What size waist?

Ed Cosner - He's like Yoda...lives in a mud hut, speaks in riddles sometimes...but is VERY strong in the Force.

I've tried to contact Ed using the contact info on http://www.sahga.org/ but no luck. I'm sure he is busy.

I'll get some stuff together and start throwing.

 I have plenty of stones and I'll stomp around and look for a caber.

 I was thinking of cobbling together some stuff out of material from Home Depot. Any/all ideas are welcome.

There are some ideas for implements on a website I went to called
xmarksthescot.com. One guy had made a weight for distance by using
a length of chain, some cable, and a handle. You can also buy a few
training devices on sorinex.com.

I do throw a few times a week as well whenever I have time but at least 3 times a week for sure.

Brittney, I was there on Saturday. I got to meet Mike Baab and a few other guys (I’m horrible with names). I was the guy NOT competing, standing too close to the athletes, picking brains and most likely double fisting beers.
