I have the exact same shoes. Awesome things. The olympic lifts may feel a bit different for 2-3 sessions though.

Raised heel- increases flexibilty and squat depth

Solid heel- gives stabilty and a solid area to drive off while doing overhead lifts and squats etc.

Under shoe surface - gives solid traction and non slip surface

The shoe design also disallows the foot to invert/evert to a degree which is obviously helpful.

The design is seriously phat and therefore great for impressing chicks. Not that I can claim they have helped much in that regard :P

Thanks Tim.

Also, try these places

www.dynamic-eleiko.com

www.vsathletics.com search for VS weightlifting shoes. The are very affordable and great value for money. Other than that, you can't go wrong with Adidas.

Any shoe that produces a posture that does NOT put
you in an advantages postion for throwing OR even
worse produces higher shear forces on tendons
and ligaments is NOT a good thing...try Vans or
Converse shoes or better yet....bare feet !!!

so is that to say that MY shiny new shoes produce a posture that does not put me in an advantageous position for throwing and also produces higher shear forces on my tendons and ligaments? Or were you referring to another kind of shoe?

Will...these are AWESOME shoes for lifting especially if you
have in-flexible calves or tight achilles tendons...however....

IF you have EXTREMELY long femurs ...any shoe with a Big
heel is going to shift the weight forward ....most good throwers
are tall and have LONG femurs. [   7   ] ..I would caution them
against MORE loading on the tendons and ligaments ...the big
advantage to a Safety Squat bar is that you can squat with your
knee's | right over your ankles...perpindicular...to the floor...food
for thought ...Maybe a crumb ?

p.s. Adidas is my favorite brand and our school colors are Blue
and white
Have a GREAT Day !

no no - coach I hear ya...It makes sense that the shoes are not necesarrily the right choice for a thrower rather than a olympic lifter...since we dont drop under the weight to catch it. I am 6'2.5" and still only have just over a 30" inseam - almost the same as my 5'10 wife. so maybe I don't have long femurs. I had been really concerned about the cross trainers i had been squatting in and was really pleased to have a sole that wouldn't squish under the load. So far the shoes have been really comfortable and I feel zero strain on the ankles and stuff...I always used to just lift in my throwing shoes

Coach, those would be good shoes for overheads and other olympic lifts and I would say they might fly ok for the fronts.  But you are right, If you look at most of the good power squat guys they have a flat shoe.  There are exceptions of course in good squaters (no, no, no)

Do you ever wear them out to dinner with the wife?

I'm not sure of any athletic movement you can do with your shins perpendicular to the ground (knees directly over your ankles).  Just try a vertical jump like this without letting your shins go forward, you're going nowhere let alone throwing anything ...

I just tried squatting with nothing on my back with my knees over my ankles.  I couldn't do it unless I held onto a door knob.

I'm not sure at what point in throwing anything I hit that position and tried to explode out of it.

O.K. guys I'll bite...would you want to handle 1,000 lbs. on your
shoulders with your heels off the ground and your knee's out
over your toes ?

I'll "assume" the answer is no...!

We like to OVERLOAD the rear -chain...hams...glutes with
eccentric loads that high or HIGHER...the way to do this safely
is witrh an anti-burst ball that handles DYNAMIC loads in
excess of 2,000 lbs. This is an inprovement on box squatting
and   is the KEY to reversibilty and what I like to call LIMIT
strength...what amount can you handle going down and
REVERSE the direction upwards.

Yes the knees do bend and go out over the feet in any athletic
movement however you should make a resvervation with an
ortho IF your not using a safety squat bar and try this with
conventional technique...!
Have a GREAT Day !

Having never done box squats or elastic ball squats I have to play devil's advocate and ask how does landing on an elastic ball promote one's ability to reverse directions with a large weight?  Doesn't the ball help you reverse (bounce) and come back up and therefere hinder your body from developing this important ability on its own?

Coach, I'm not understanding how bouncing of the ball is helping your reversibility and/or limit strength.  The harder you come down on the ball the faster and higher you'll bounce back up but how is that working you any harder.

As a side note, I don't think anyone is handling 1,000 lbs in the manner you're speaking of.  Will said only 335 (no offense Will).  Plus if you calculate the body weight of some of these throwers plus the shear forces throwing produces I'll bet front squating with heels is actually easier on their knees than throwing.  There's gotta be a ton of force going through a 300 lbs shot putter's power leg as they glide to the trig.  I am on the boat with you about not letting your knees go past your toes "excessively" but what Will and Kurt and everyone else is doing can't be much more dangerous than trying to handle a load that you can't even lift yourself with out the aid of handles to hold on to and a ball to bounce off of.

P.S.  I've learned from past experiences that tone of voice does not translate well via the forums so let me just say that I'm not bashing you or your ideas but am instead discussing i.e. "debating" some training theorys.  So I hope the above reads like that.
