I'm planning to transition from my current HIT style of lifting back to olympic lifts and stength/Dino training. Looking for ideas on how to keep the workouts short and intense (read: only a couple days a week) , while incorporating O-lifts, lots of grip work, and other strenth training.... then maybe, just maybe I'll actually start training for the 'games next season! one can only hope. Hoping to make it to one/some of Art's seminars, and maybe catch up with some New England guys to learn the throws. I've got a baby coming in a week, so time will obviously be at a premium... therein lies my issue. Thanks to anyone responding. Lenny Billerica, MA |

Well, first off, thank God you've stopped doing HIT. Secondly, as a father of new triplets I can tell you that finding time to train a couple to three time per week is tough but if you try you can do it. As far a making it a short yet productive workout that is condusive to throws that should be pretty easy. Just do only bare essentials which most of us could stand to do anyway. Things like cleans, squats, jerks and maybe some rows or pull ups. Work these heavy some times and fast others and you'll be set. On another note, the only thing harder than finding time to train with a new baby(ies) is getting enough sleep to recover from your workouts. I tried to train like I used to and I kept getting sick from overtraining. So adjust if neccassary. As the AncientOne says, "Good luck in your training." |

Amen, brother.
The key is breastfeeding. That helps fathers sleep better. |

I agree with Wayne, it should help you. We breastfeed but you can't do 3 at one time. The other problem is that my wife works nights so it's bottles from dad on those nights. Sleep is for pussies... |

For Sure! I know when ours were little and I got to breastfeed, I slept, well... just like a baby. Plus the colostrum(sp) in mother's milk is great for recovery. |

Milk is for babies. You must drink beer.

I forgot to put a disclaimer about not baching the HIT... my bad! I saw it coming though! I know, I know, the diehards hate the HIT stuff... believe me, I'd rather do cleans all day long, but I can't. I can get away with a few months of that type of lifting, then I go back to HIT, well, my version anyway. Bad back, bad knees, bad shoulders (hockey, police work, and mountain biking to blame) get me all tangled up after a few months- Just when I start to progress, my body falls apart! Breastfeeding's a GO! so I'll get SOME sleep. as for time... another story. anyone have a two day split they want to share? that may even be pushing it! house projects, babies, overtime, quality time with the fam.... this growing up thing sucks!!! oh well... I still have time to make my beer and drink it! anyone know if Art's putting on more seminars?
