It is a hard question to answer because you can have a technical flaw in either of the two throws. I have a pretty good stand throw (50ft+ even on a bad day) so my data is probably different from most people. If my stand throw is good I can only gain 2-4ft with a good MSA, if my stand throw is not as good that day I can gain 5+ft with a good MSA, lastly if my stand throw is good and my MSA is not hitting quite right I can actually lose distance.

I say 10-15%. Hit 40' standing and you should be around 44-46' with the MSA/Scottish style.

Hey, the first step is just NOT throwing less than your stand. Then you work on actually going higher. Most folks without a throwing background throw under their stand throw when they start because you usually just blow right past your power positions.
 
Learn to walk through it first and land in a decent power position. It'll start to come together reasonably quickly.
