So the one event that I'm really lacking in is Hammer
Throw. And I think that blades would help a ton, at least thats what I hear. Any advice on how to go about getting some blades? Also training tips for Hammer? Both throwing and liftingwise. |

This has been discussed numerous times so use the search function and take a look at past posts. You can make your own blades or get blades from Larry Brock.
You need to be long through the torso all the way to the arms. Legs, hips and core do pretty much all the work. Lots of core work and just do lots and lots of hammer winds. This will build rotational strength and will also help you learn the tempo of the swing. Good luck |

Larry Brock is great to get blades from. I love mine. His e-mail is bigbrock65@hotmail.com . You'll throw farther with blades. If I lose my balance, it's easier to sit down with blades on. You can really get up on your toes, lean and countersink better with blades. I like to watch Ryan Vierra's training DVDs (www.vp-productions.com) and also on-line videos, especially those on Craig Smith's site, www.kiltedthrower.com . Recently at a Francis Brebner clinic, I learned on my last windup to keep up my speed and when turning my left hip and head for release, not to countersink away from the hammer. He also said when swinging the hammer to the left let it go up. You'll notice differnet styles. Some really swing the hammer high to the left and others not so high. Do what works for you. Really work on your leg and core strength, and flexability. Stay long in the arms and really countersink with your body. I like to wind slowly to work on my form and get warmed up before ripping it. To warm up you can swing the lighter hammer slowly with one arm at a time. Have Fun.
