I've entered the Novice division in the 2009 North Texas Scottish Festival Highland Games.....The only problem with this plan is that I've never done anything like this ever before. I'm really looking for anyone in the area that can get me started in the right direction,,,,training, throwing, ect. |

I'm in Richardson, but I typically train at 6 am. There is a group that gets together in Irving at a more reasonable time on Saturday. I'm sure that Duncan will chime in here. Rick |

Thanks Rick! 6:00 am does not scare me, unless it's during the week. I'm at work, in McKinney, ~6:15 so that I can spend time with my girls in the afternoon. I am very interested in the Saturday get together. However, I was wondering if you might have any suggestions for my workout's during the week. I just recently started training with Russian Kettlebells. I'm also thinking I need to get back into olympic style lifts, clean's, dead lift's, ect, cutting back on the weight and focusing on more explosive movements. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Chris |

Don't take it personally brother....... I'm still going to do it.
I just went to the quary and got a 25lb stone to practice with. I also switched my workout's around, more focus on kettlebell's and core training, ect. I started watching video's on YouTube for pointers on form, and next week I plan to start going to the high school a couple times a week to practice throwing. I'll just use my kettlebell's to practice the weight for distance throws. |

Is there anyone training in the Ft. Worth area. I am new to HG, will be doing the Bedford contest in the Fall, attending the Arlington event in 2 weeks. I have a place to throw if needed in my backyard(abt 2 acres) in Haslet. I have a full gym as well, we are currently training strongman events on Saturday afternoons at 3:00. Have all of the implements for that and acquiring HG pieces as I go. Scott |

Scott DuncanMacullam has a group that meets out in the Fossil Ridge area. That's the only group I know of on that side of the Metroplex.

Okay...
So... I entered the novice events on Friday in Arlington. It was a lot of fun and frankly, it would not have been _as_ fun if it were not for all the great people involved. Before I registered on the forum, there was another thread going on about the games in Arlington this past weekend, but I have no found my way back around to those posts. I will go find them and/or browse around the forum. |

Folks in North Texas... We have a great group of throwers in the Ft. Worth/Keller area that gets together regularly. We have at least 3 of every implement, and have just recently acquired Women's implements as well. If you are interested in practicing and getting your learn-on, give me a call at 512 426 1922 and I will do whatever I can to help. Duncan |

Clearly Brian, you have me mistaken for some other Duncan. In all seriousness Chris, look for Buckcali's videos on Youtube. If you watch from the very beginning you will see how throws progress. Brian is not the biggest or strongest, but he has made definite improvement in footwork, control, and has demonstrated how to really apply some force to his throws. I recommend these vids also, along with many others, because they are almost all from different angles, and this makes a huge difference. Watch those for awhile, then come practice. I'll show you how to beat the Labatt out of him. |
