I have thrown in a half dozen games, but I cannot even
get a single spin down. I know it is a timing thing but I cannot seem to find the right time to turn. I have read not to let the weight get past your right hip but thats about all I can find. I have been watching youtube for single spins but havent found a lot of help Any comments would be greatly appreciated. KN |

Duncan's training log has him doing just that! (For your next question ask Coach Todd if the DEADLIFT really helps with the WOB). |

You're not going to get a good explanation, IMO, because it's super difficult to articulate. I tried it before and it was all fux0red up. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6SNn_hYST08&feature=chann el_video_title there is a vid of me practicing standing throws, single spins and double spins. I was having issues with my cast and have since fixed it, but you can get the point just from watching the video. You want to cast the weight out in front of you then, *quickly* replace your left foot with your right foot, wait for the we ight to get to zero (the very back of the trig) and rush forward and upward with your legs. When I say wait, it's not going to be very long, you just want it to get to the very back of the trig and explode forward/upward. Now I'll get crucified for a shitty explanation, hahaha.. |

a really basic desription: feet start at (L) 9:00 and (R) 3:00 at back of box. Left foot should be in the back right corner to maximize space without fouling (only one foot needs to stay in the box at all times) when you swing the weight forward past your right hip to start the spins, twirl around and land your feet at (L)12:00 and (R) 6:00. Feet should land just before the weight passes the right hip again. Repeat for second spin, only FASTER. As soon as you land your 2nd spin, explode and fling that sucker. good luck. If you aren't using a hook grip or a glove LOADED with tacky, you are not going to be able to hold on to pull hard enough to throw it far - unless of course you have a grip like Mark Felix... |

your body needs the first spin to get into position for the second, I would work on two spins. But if you wish to do a one spin try the same form used for a spinning WOB form. Start halfway back in the trig. Only change the attack angle, Aim alittle more out than up. Don't forget to lead with your throwing side foot. don't let it follow or the weight will advance to far ahead of your body. Slow down yor movements untill you can start to feel the power position. When your timing is right you will have alot of time to pull the weight thru, with a good feel start to speed up slowly. Quit measuring practice throws, just feel the throw. |

I started to finally get it down when I did a lot of throws
slowing everything way down not worrying about the distance. Going full bore all the time was unable to learn to hit the right positions. Pretty quick I was throwing more distance with a slow lazy minimal effort throw than when I was burning like the tazmanian devil. Then at that point I was able to start to put speed back into it gradually and then was hitting 50+ regularly. |

I actually disagree with this. I'd actually put it that you need to make sure the first spin doesn't pull you out of position for the second one. Early on, a cripplingly slow first spin isn't so bad as long as you are in good position for spin number 2. |

Yeah, but you cast that second one like you're trying to break the sound barrier. It'd be interesting to note how close to PRs the top guys single spin is to their 2 spin. Bet it's over 80%. |
