If you throw on the east coast they dis-allow any throws made with 2 tine and 5 tine converted to 3 tine. 2 tine should give less resistance but I always feel like I am flexing the tines too much . But I have the thinner tines. For what it's worth the World Record was set with 3 tine so I am not sure how much advantage comes with the two tine fork except for grip comfort which some find preferable.
My advice would be to try everyone else's forks ( throwers are glad to loan them as long as you treat the fork properly ) and see which type and which brand of fork feels best.

Tossing the Sheaf
The number of tines seems to be regional which is usually dictated by the group hosting the event or the AD. |

After you determine what kind of fork you like, where do you purchase one?
Thanks Britton

Funny you should ask, in california you would be hard pressed to walk into a hardware store and pick a 3 tine fork off the wall, this is the reason why people get 5 tines and cut the 2 end tines off. I feel that after making many sheaf forks that 3 is the way to go. The new forks I will spend 4.5 hrs' just to get the tines ready to throw with because they don't have alot of life in them. the handle, well that's a matter of preference on what you do their. Some guys love their fork and some it's just a tool and they don't care what happens to it. I find antique tines and clean them up straighten them up and bend them in to position then put a new handles on them. They have alot of life in them and they vibrate well. I sell them Clevenger sells them, couple of other guys sell them it all depends on what you want. The cheapest I have found forks is from Ace oneline in NY buy 2 for $50 and shipped to you house for free, that's what it was last year but that is the lowest price I have seen. It's spend $50+ and shipping is free. It just happens I needed 2 $25 forks last year. Hope that helps I'm on facebook under Diablo pitchfork co.

Too many throwers, even some pros, want some kind of low drag stick. This is a mistake if you want to find out how high you can really throw the sheaf. You've got to assert with the bag with everything you've got, to the point that your fork is the last place that bag will want to be.
Get a solid stick on bag, and with proper technique that bag will fly high. Don't worry about sanding your tines or any of that crap. The middle tine is very important because you get spring from it. I have a fork I popped the middle tine out of because I was pulling so hard on the bag. Use 3 tines, get the technique down, then try to rip that bag apart in competition.

I know this thread is about tines, but I just noticed that 12lb women's bag business up there. Can I ask where that text was taken from?
10lbs is the standard for a women's bag. After 6 years of competition, I've only seen one games where we even had a 12lb bag (which didn't get used because the competitors complained). Just my two cents!
